Purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood

The church has defined eight purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood and states that "Aaronic Priesthood holders are encouraged to study these purposes and make them an important part of all that they do". To this end, many leaders have encouraged young men to memorize this "mission statement" of the Aaronic Priesthood.
The Scriptorian Applet is a handy aid for those trying to remember the purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood. It is also included in the free Young Men Scriptorian study list.

Scouting

Scouting is an integral part of the Aaronic Priesthood program for LDS young men. The principles espoused by scouting align with those of the Aaronic Priesthood. Like the purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood, young men are expected to learn and live by the Scout Oath, Law, Slogan and Motto.
For those that would like assistance in learning these important statements of scouting, you can use the on-line Scriptorian Applet. These scouting statements are also included in the free Young Men Scriptorian study list.

Duty to God

The Aaronic Priesthood Duty to God program is designed to strengthen young men spiritually and help them accomplish the purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood. Some of the goals to be accomplished in this program include memorizing scriptures such as Doctrine and Covenants 4 and the sacrament prayers. Scriptorian is the perfect tool to help young men meet such memorization goals.

For the Strength of Youth

Integral to the young men's program are the standards set forth in the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet. The guidelines and counsel provided in this pamphlet is modern day scripture for the youth. Learning and remembering these standards is the first step towards living them. Using Scriptorian and the free For the Strength of Youth study lists (abbreviated or complete) is a great way to review and remember these important standards.

Scripture Mastery

Seminary participation will strengthen and broaden a young man's testimony and understanding of the gospel. When it comes to learning and remembering the seminary scripture mastery verses, there is no better tool than Scriptorian. All four years of scripture mastery verses are included with Scriptorian. The Scriptorian Applet is also available to help young men learn their scripture mastery verses.
Beyond seminary scripture mastery verses, learning and memorizing scriptures builds a solid foundation for prospective missionaries as they prepare to share the gospel. Scriptures cited from "Preach My Gospel" are also available in Scriptorian study lists or on-line using the Scriptorian Applet.
(What is Scriptorian?)

"Give me a young man who has kept himself morally clean and has faithfully attended his Church meetings. Give me a young man who has magnified his priesthood and has earned the Duty to God Award and is an Eagle Scout. Give me a young man who is a seminary graduate and has a burning testimony of the Book of Mormon. Give me such a young man, and I will give you a young man who can perform miracles for the Lord in the mission field and throughout his life...

I have a vision of thousands of missionaries going into the mission field with hundreds of passages memorized from the Book of Mormon so that they might feed the needs of a spiritually famished world....

Second, prepare yourselves mentally. A mission requires a great deal of mental preparation. You must memorize missionary discussions, memorize scriptures, and ofttimes learn a new language. The discipline to do this is learned in your early years...."

President Ezra Taft Benson

Purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood

Young men between the ages of 12 and 17 are in a time of preparation and personal growth. Accordingly, the purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood are to help each person who is ordained to:

   * Become converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and live its teachings.
   * Serve faithfully in priesthood callings and fulfill the responsibilities of priesthood offices.
   * Give meaningful service.
   * Prepare and live worthily to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and temple ordinances.
   * Prepare to serve an honorable full-time mission.
   * Obtain as much education as possible.
   * Prepare to become a worthy husband and father.
   * Give proper respect to women, girls, and children.

Aaronic Priesthood holders are encouraged to study these purposes and make them an important part of all that they do. Leaders and parents should be guided by these purposes in fostering a young man’s spiritual growth.

"Scriptorian is a wonderful program and a great tool. I used the trial version, memorized all the Book of Mormon Scripture Mastery Scriptures, then bought the full program because it was so effective. There is a lot of power in committing the scriptures to memory. I would definitely recommend it to anyone."
