Scriptorian - LDS Scripture Mastery Software.
Everyone knows that consistent, regular study of the scriptures is important. But how do you remember what you have read? What about those inspiring verses that you mark in your scriptures, but then can't remember a few days later? Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could remember key verses the next time you participated in a gospel discussion at home, at church or with an interested non-member friend?
In a recent conference address, Elder Richard G. Scott said "I suggest that you memorize scriptures that touch your heart and fill your soul with understanding. When scriptures are used as the Lord has caused them to be recorded, they have intrinsic power that is not communicated when paraphrased." (October 1999 General Conference) In his book "Searching the Scriptures", Elder Gene R. Cook states: "I have discovered that many times you don't fully understand a scripture until you memorize it... But that's not all. By memorizing scripture you show the Lord that you esteem his words to be of great value- and then he will be more likely to speak to you and give you more."
In addition to the habit of regular scripture study, we should also develop a habit of memorizing important verses. And "Scriptorian" is a great tool for doing that. Produced by SoftLore, LLC, Scriptorian is a software tool that helps you memorize scriptures and remember where they are located. It is so flexible that it can be used with ease by children and scholars alike, and so versatile that you can also use it to learn favorite quotes, hymns, missionary discussions, and more.

Everything in Scriptorian is designed around "study lists". A study list is simply a collection of items- scriptures, quotes, hymns, etc. - that you want to learn. Scriptorian includes several different study lists, and you can easily create your own as well. Do you want to memorize a scripture you have read, or remember a verse from a talk you heard? Since the complete LDS Scriptures are included with Scriptorian, it is easy to add any scripture you want to your own study list. Do you want your primary children to learn the Articles of Faith? An Articles of Faith study list is included and ready to use (By the way, Scriptorian is a wonderful Sunday activity for children). Do you want to help your seminary students remember their scripture mastery verses? Study lists for all four years of seminary scripture mastery verses are also included with Scriptorian.
Missionaries in particular can benefit from Scriptorian. President Ezra Taft Benson expressed "a vision of thousands of missionaries going into the mission field with hundreds of passages memorized from the Book of Mormon so that they might feed the needs of a spiritually famished world." ( October 1988 General Conference) The SoftLore web site includes great missionary study lists that can be downloaded for free. There are study lists that include all of the scriptures contained in the missionary discussions, as well as study lists that will help prospective missionaries learn the discussions. And return missionaries will enjoy using Scriptorian to help them remember all the scriptures they learned in the field.
Scriptorian is not only great for learning new items, but it will also help you retain what you have learned. Using Scriptorian just a few minutes a day to review your study lists will ensure that you won't lose what you spent time learning. And if you are at your computer for much of the day, you can take advantage of Scriptorian's Pop Up mode. In Pop Up mode, Scriptorian will "pop up" a window at regular intervals throughout the day to quiz you on a few verses, making it a great tool for retaining what you have learned.
Another great thing about Scriptorian is that it doesn't lose its usefulness. Unlike other software programs that have fixed content, you can always add new study lists to Scriptorian. And if you don't want to create your own, SoftLore is regularly adding new study lists to their web site that you can download for free. For example, some of the files that you can add to Scriptorian from the SoftLore web site are: "LDS Hymns", "Top 100 Scriptures", "The Family: A Proclamation to the World", "Latter-day Prophets", and more.
For learning and memorizing the scriptures, Scriptorian is the right tool to add to your software library. Visit the SoftLore web site to learn more about this great product and take it for a "test drive" by downloading the free fully functional 30 day evaluation version: Click To Download
