How To: Creating your own study lists
Scriptorian comes with study lists to get you started, and there are
more to be downloaded from our web site. But one of Scriptorian's
best features is that you can create your own study lists.
For example, one of the study lists you may want to create is a list
of your favorite scriptures. You may want to add to it some of the
seminary scripture mastery scriptures. You may want to memorize a
scripture you heard in church, or one that you came across while
reading. So this is how you do it.
Study lists are created in the Create/Edit Study List dialog. To
display this dialog, select Study List from Scriptorian's main menu,
then Create. At the top of the dialog, where it says
Study List Name, type in the name you want for the study list you are creating.
Let's assume you want to name it "My Very First Study List" (in case
you can't think of anything too creative). After you enter in "My Very
First Study List", you can then hit the Save button to exit the
dialog and the new study list will be displayed. Since there are no
items in your new study list, it looks quite empty and can't be used
for much.
There are two ways to add items to your study list: 1. from a library
(using the Create/Edit Study List dialog) or, 2. from another study
list.
So suppose you heard someone quote John 14:15 in a talk. You decide
that it's a good scripture to memorize and remember (of course it has
nothing to do with the fact that it is also a very short scripture).
To add John 14:15 to "My Very First Study List", first make sure the
study list is open and then press the Edit button on the study
list's window. Now you are back to the Create/Edit Study List dialog.
Use the list boxes to select the book (John), chapter (14) and
verse(15), then press the Add button to insert it in the list. Or you
can just type John 14:15 directly in the Reference edit field (don't
forget to press the Enter key when you are done typing it in). You
have just added your first scripture to "My Very First Study List". If
you have some other favorites, you can add them the same way. Just
don't forget to press the Save button when exiting the dialog.
The easiest way to copy scriptures from one study list to another, is
to use the Copy Between Study Lists dialog. We'll talk more about this
another time. But if you want to give it a try, just click on the
Copy button located on the main window's tool bar (If you are not
sure what to do then, just click on the dialog's Help button).
So what if you want to do something other than scriptures? What if you
want to add a quote, or add a hymn. We'll cover that in the next
issue, but if you want to know now, check out Scriptorian's "How Do
I?" help to guide you along the way.
Remember that Scriptorian includes extensive help to guide you through
much of what was presented here. For example, to get help creating a
study list, just select Help from the main menu, then How Do I?
and Study Lists. From the help window that appears, select Create a
new study list or Add study items to a study list to get step by
step instructions.
