How To: Windows Cut and Paste

Using the Windows' clipboard is a convenient way to copy text from one application to another. It is very useful when creating new study items in a library where you want to copy the text from another program, a web site, or even within Scriptorian itself. To use this Windows feature in Scriptorian, you will need to use the hot keys associated with the clipboard edit commands.

For example, suppose you received an e-mail that contained a quote you wanted to remember. To copy the quote into a study item, open the Library Manager dialog (click on the Library button on the tool bar), select the library you want to create the study item in, and then click on the Create Item button. The User Defined Study Item dialog should now be displayed. Enter a reference that you would like to use to identify your new study item. Now switch over to your e-mail message (Use the Alt-Tab key combination to switch between applications) and use the mouse to select the text you want to copy. Once the text you want is selected, press the Ctrl-C key combination to copy it.

Now, switch back to Scriptorian (again, using Alt-Tab) and click on the text area of the User Defined Study Item. Now, to paste your selected text into the study item, press the Ctrl-V key combination. The text you selected from your e-mail message should now be copied into the study item. If you have a study list you want this item added to, just select it at the bottom of the dialog, then press Save to save your new study item.

Remember that Scriptorian includes extensive help to guide you through its features. For example, to get Pop Up help, just select Help from the main menu, then How Do I?, Libraries and then Add study items to a library, to get step by step instructions on this topic.
