How To: Study List Options
Do you know the difference between general options and study list
options? The general Options dialog is accessible from Scriptorian's
main menu or tool bar and includes settings that apply to the entire
program. However, study list options can be set for a specific study
list, allowing each study list to potentially have a separate settings
for how it is used.
The Study List Options dialog is accessed from the Options button
located on the Study List Window tool bar (you can also get to the
dialog from the main menu- select Study List, then Options). When you
open the Study List Options dialog, the options displayed apply to the
current study list. For example, if you have two study lists open
(study list A and B) and you click on the Options button displayed on
study list A's tool bar, the Study List Options dialog will display,
and allow you to set, the options for study list A, not study list B.
Two of the tabs, Quote It and Chase, appear similar to the same named
tabs in the general Options dialog. In fact, if you do not select the
Use List Specific Options check box located near the top left of the
tabbed section, the options will not be accessible and the options set
in the general Options dialog will apply. So, to override the general
options, select the Use List Specific Options check box and alter
the settings for this particular study list. For example, you may have
a study list that is used only for review and you want to set the
Weighting Options differently. Notice also, under the Quote It tab,
that you have the option to set this study list to present the study
items for Quote It according to their sorted order as opposed to the
normal random/weighted retrieval order.
The two Linx related tabs, Quote It Linx and Chase Linx, allow great
flexibility for determining how Linx data is displayed. For example,
if you are using the States study list (see download area) you can use
this section to focus on a particular portion of the information, such
as the state capitol, by allowing only that Linx Topix to be
displayed.
There is quite a bit of information in the Study List Options dialog,
but help is close by. If you are not sure what some of the displayed
options are, just right click on the item in question and select
What's This? to receive more information on that feature or option.
Remember that Scriptorian includes extensive help to guide you through
its features. For example, to get information about Scriptorian's
study list options feature, just select Help from the main menu, then
Index, and then type study list preferences dialog to find the available help topics.
