How To: Chase Modes
Last month we toured the different ways to use Quote It. Now we will
take a look at Scriptorian's Chase feature. Chase is used to help you
remember scripture references so that you will know where verses are
located in the scriptures. However, since Scriptorian can be used for
more than just scriptures, Chase can also be thought of as a tool to
quiz you on the "flip side of a flash card".
The two basic modes of Chase are multiple choice and fill in. Because
Chase defaults to multiple choice mode, you are likely familiar with
this mode. What you may not realize, though, are the ways that you can
customize this mode. For example, from the Options dialog, you can
adjust the number of choices available to you (from two to ten). You
can also indicate how Scriptorian comes up with the other "wrong"
scripture reference choices (or "alternate" choices, as they are
referred to in the help file). For example, to make things interesting
for testing your knowledge, you can have Scriptorian generate
alternate choices that are from the same book (or even chapter) as the
correct reference. For example, if the reference of the verse you were
being quizzed on was "John 14:15", with same book mode, you might have
alternate answers of "John 3:5", "John 14:5", "John 16:12" and so
forth.
To try out Chase' Fill in mode, just press the Fill In button on the
Chase window (you can also set this to your preferred mode in the
Options dialog if you like). In this mode, you must enter the
reference in manually- requiring you to know it better than in
multiple choice mode. If the reference is a scripture verse, when you
start to type the book name, Scriptorian's "book completion" feature
will try to complete the book for you. If you are only concerned with
identifying the verse reference to the chapter level (i.e. "John 14"
instead of the exact reference "John 14:15"), you can set this option
in the Option dialog.
Like most Scriptorian features, Chase can be used and customized in
different ways to create the best possible learning mode for you.
Remember that Scriptorian includes extensive help to guide you through
its features. For example, to get information about Scriptorian's
Quote It feature, just select Help from the main menu, then
Contents, and then select the Chase link from the Scriptorian
Topics section.
