How To: Linx Introduction
Version 2.1 of Scriptorian included the Linx feature for study items.
This is a powerful, flexible addition to Scriptorian. However, it may
also appear complex and confusing. We will use this "How To" portion
of the newsletter to explain Linx so you can better understand what a
great feature this is.
The Linx feature allows you to attach, or link, related information to a
study item. For example, in the seminary scripture mastery study
lists, each verse has keyword, doctrinal teaching, historical setting,
missionary application and personal application information attached
to it through the Linx feature. The 50 States study list
uses the Linx feature to associate different facts with its respective state.
You can access a study item's Linx information from the Linx Editor
dialog. The easiest way to access this dialog is from the Study List
window. Just double click on the link icon that appears to the left of the
study item (Note: the link icon will only appear next to study items
that have Linx data associated with them).
Linx information includes a keyword, multiple Topix and comments. The
keyword field can be used to provide keywords for, or a brief summary
of, the linked study list item. But it can be used in other ways as
well. For example, the States study list uses the keyword field for the
state's nickname. You can create multiple Topix items for a single
study list item. Each Topix item has a name or title to describe the
information it contains. For example, in the seminary scripture study
lists, the four Topix items are labeled Doctrinal Teaching, Historical
Setting, Missionary Application and Personal Application. Each of
these Topix items contains information in these four Topix
"categories" that corresponds to the particular scripture reference they
are linked to. The comment field can be used to store brief notes
concerning a particular scripture verse or other type of study list
item.
You can learn more about the Linx feature by using Scriptorian's extensive
help feature. Just select Help from the main menu, then
Contents, and then select the Linx link from the Scriptorian
Topics section.
