How To: Creating Linx
There are several study lists available
from the SoftLore web site
that include Linx data. You can easily
create your own Linx data, or even modify information in an existing
study list, with the Linx Editor dialog.
Of the different ways to access the Linx Editor dialog, the easiest is
to double click on the Linx column (the leftmost column of the Study
List window) for the item you want to add Linx data to. If the item
already has Linx data, a link icon will already be displayed in this
column. Double clicking on this icon will open up the Linx Editor
dialog allowing you to edit that item's Linx data.
In the Linx Editor, you can add a keyword for the study item, attach
various pieces of information using Topix, or store some comments or
thoughts you would like to remember. Keywords can be used as
additional prompts to help you remember the content of study items
when using Quote It, or as a quick way to identify verses when using
Chase.
The Linx Topix add great versatility to the information that a single
study item can include. To get a better idea of how this has been
implemented on some of the SoftLore study lists, just open up a study
list that includes Linx information and double click on the link icon
to open the Linx Editor dialog and see how the information has been
set up for that list's study items. To add your own Topix item, click
on the Add button to give your Topix a name. This will then create a
new tabbed item in the dialog for you to add the Topix data to. For
better organizing your Topix information consistently in your study
list, you might consider using a template (which we will discuss in
the next newsletter).
Once you have created Linx data for a study item in a study list, it
is available for that study item in whatever study list it may exist.
For example, if you have Linx data for the study item "James 1:5"
in a "New Testament verses" study list, you can also use that same
Linx data for "James 1:5" in a "Favorite verses" study list. In fact,
if the Auto Link box is checked in the study list, this association
will occur automatically when you add new items to that study list. If
the item was already in the study list, to link in the Linx data, just
double click on the Linx column. The Linx Editor will display the Linx
data for that item and all you need to do then is press the Link
button.
Remember that Scriptorian includes extensive help to guide you through
its features. For example, to get more information about Scriptorian's
Linx edit feature, just select Help from the main menu, then
Contents, and then select the Linx link from the Scriptorian
Topics section.
