How To: Linx Templates
The past two newsletters have discussed various aspects of
Scriptorian's Linx feature. We will continue this series as we discuss
Linx templates.
When adding Linx data to a study list, often you will want to add the
same Topix for each item in the list. Having to create the same Linx
Topix for each study item can be tedious and error prone. However, by
creating a template for the study list, all study list items will
automatically have the same Topix available to them. Then all you need
to do is fill in the information associated with each Topix item.
Another reason to use a template is for refining your Quote It and
Chase session. When doing Chase or Quote It, only those Topix defined
in a template can be selected when specifying Linx Topix to be used.
A Linx template is simply a definition of Topix labels that is applied
to all new Linx items associated with a particular study list. When
creating a template for an existing study list, you can also apply it
to the Linx items already linked to study items currently in the list.
In doing this, there is no loss of any unique information that might
be contained in the existing items.
A Linx template is created with the Linx Template Editor dialog. You
can access this dialog by clicking the right mouse button in the Study
List window and selecting the Linx Template option, or by going to the
main menu and selecting Study List and then Edit Template. You will
notice that the Linx Template Editor dialog is very similar to the
Linx Editor dialog. The difference is that in this dialog you are only
allowed to create, modify or delete Topix categories. You cannot add
keywords or Topix content. Once you have your template setup, then
press the Save button to add the template to your study list. You now
have a template that will make your life much easier when adding Linx
information to your study list.
Remember that Scriptorian includes extensive help to guide you through
its features. For example, to get more information about Scriptorian's
Linx edit feature, just select Help from the main menu, then
Contents, and then select the Linx link from the Scriptorian
Topics section.
