How To: Using new 3.0 features
We are excited about the latest version of Windows Scriptorian and the
new Palm Scriptorian application. There are several new features to
point out, but we don't want to take up too much room in the
newsletter. We will touch on a few now and introduce you to others
later.
Tabbed windows
Among the most significant changes to the program's look, Windows
Scriptorian 3.0 now uses tabbed windows for displaying study list,
Quote It, and Chase windows. This new feature makes it easier to move
between different views and prevents the confusion that may have
occurred when many different windows were open. Each open view has its
own tab near the bottom of the program. The window type is denoted by
an icon to help you easily determine if it is a study list, Quote It
or Chase window. The tab's icon is followed by the study list name. If
many windows are open, arrow buttons will appear helping you to
navigate through them.
Quote It modes
Two new Quote It modes have been added to Windows Scriptorian: Speed
mode and First Letter mode (these are included in Palm Scriptorian as
well). With Speed mode, you only need to enter the first letter of
each missing word and Scriptorian will fill in the rest. This is ideal
for items you are familiar with and want a quick review. It is also a
great mode for younger children who lack keyboard skills. First Letter
mode is another learning aid that displays the first letter of each
missing word. This is a great "prompt" mode when learning new items.
You can set Quote It to run in either of these modes via the main
Options dialog or the Study List Options dialog.
Export to Palm
Windows Scriptorian 3.0 includes support for easily exporting study
lists to Palm Scriptorian. This allows you to create your own study
lists and copy them to your Palm device. To do this, in Windows
Scriptorian, just open up the study list you want to add to Palm
Scriptorian and then open the Export Study List dialog (select Study
List then Export Study List from the main menu). In the Export Study
List dialog, select the options to export as a palm compatible file
and to install at the next Hotsync. Then all you need to do is Hotsync
your Palm device and the study list is already for you to use.
