Tips: Modifying Verses
Question:
"I like to customize my scripture memorization. By that, I mean
combine parts of two or more verses, part or parts of a verse, etc.
that have significance to me in my learning. Is there a way to alter
what I have Scriptorian test me on according to my above description?
I imagine the pop-up for instance references a database containing the
scriptures according to the chapter and verse. Some words, just
aren't necessary like all the "and it came to pass", "wherefore",
etc. I am just interested in memorizing the meat of the verse."
Answer:
You can modify anything, even scripture verses, if you like. For
example, suppose that you only wanted to memorize the "wickedness
never was happiness" portion of Alma 41:10. Here's how you would do
it.
Open the study list that you want to include Alma 41:10 in.
Open the Edit/Create Study List dialog by selecting the button from
the tool bar or select Study List then Edit List from the main
menu.
Either type in the Reference field, or select from the list boxes,
"Alma 41:10". The full scripture should appear in the window below.
Click on the Modify Item button to display the User Defined Study Item dialog. This is where you can change the text to be what you
would like. For example, in this case, you may only want to leave
the phrase "wickedness never was happiness". To distinguish from
references to full verses, you may want to modify the reference
from "Alma 41:10" to "Alma 41:10 (abv)". Since you want to add your
modified scripture to the current study list, you will want to
leave the Add to Study List check box selected. Also, if you have
several libraries, be sure to select the one that is most
appropriate to place your modified study item in. Once all your
changes are complete, click on the Save button to save the study
item to your selected user library.
After closing the User Defined Study Item dialog, click on the
Edit/Create Study List dialog's Save button to save this study item to your study list. Now you have your modified scripture ready to
use.
How do you use Scriptorian? Have you come up with some ideas that may
be useful for others? Please share them through the feedback page or e-mail them to us.
