Tips: Save Your Information

(If the information below looks familiar, you're right- it is taken from the August/September 2002 newsletter. Given many of the e-mails we have received recently, we just thought it would be a good idea to share again!)

Hopefully you have never had to deal with a computer "crash". And hopefully you have never accidentally deleted some files you wish you hadn't. And hopefully you have been able to successfully transfer all your old software to your new upgraded computer system. As for the rest of us, here are some tips for keeping Scriptorian up and running despite what may come.

We often receive e-mail from users requesting their registration information so that they can re-install Scriptorian after a computer crash or upgrade. We don't mind providing the information, but you can avoid the wait by copying the registration information down and keeping it in a safe place. Your registration information can be found in the Scriptorian About dialog (to access the About dialog, click on Help from the main menu, then click on About). Record your registered name and the registration code that appears at the bottom. With this information you can access the registered user's page and download a new copy of Scriptorian in the event you run into computer problems.

Another good precaution to take is that of backing up your files. It is a good idea to back up your files on a regular basis to some location other than your computer. For example, you may back files up to floppy or CD, to a repository on the internet, or to another computer. For your Scriptorian files, you will want to back up all the files in the primary directory. The About dialog also displays this directory.

Somewhere Murphy has a law indicating that the likelihood of misfortune striking is inversely proportional to the level of preparation- so not only will you be prepared if computer calamity strikes, but you will have decreased the possibility that it will!

How do you use Scriptorian? Have you come up with some ideas that may be useful for others? Please share them through the feedback page or e-mail them to us.
