Tips
on Memorization
Learn it quicker with Learn
mode
If you are just starting to memorize a new verse or quote, use
Scriptorian's Learn Mode to speed up the learning process. You
can use Learn Mode any time a Quote It window is displayed by
clicking on the Learn Mode check box displayed on the bottom
right part of the window. Learn Mode starts you off with a few
blank words and gradually decreases the words shown as you remember
the verse better. It even remembers the level of learning for
each reference so that you can come back later and pick up right
where you left off. And of course, you can set various options
in the Options dialog to get it to work the way that suits you
best.
Adding multiple items to a
Library
When creating a new library of study items, you can more easily
enter multiple items by selecting the "Multiple Create"
check box. Select the "Library" button, then the "Create
Item". From this dialog you can enter a new study item.
Selecting the "Multiple Create" check box will make
it much easier to enter several items in a row.
Don't type- use Ctrl+W
If you don't like typing, you can still use Quote It by using
the word hints. Just say the next word to yourself then press
Ctrl+W or the Word button. When the word appears you can see
if you were right or not. This provides a good way for children
to use Quote It even if they cannot type.
Scriptorian meets Homework
Because Scriptorian allows you to create your own study items,
it can even be used to help out with homework. If you need to
memorize a poem from school, just enter it into Scriptorian.
It's a great way to match capitols to their states. You can use
Scriptorian to help you learn vocabulary, and even spelling,
by entering the words and their definitions, and then using Chase
with Fill in mode to type the word correctly. Scriptorian's
flexibility lends itself to many uses.
The number please...
"When I moved from Virginia, my new driver's license number
was no longer the
same as my social security number. I have never taken the time
to take my license out to memorize the new number. When I downloaded
Scriptorian, I added a pop-up in the list to help me memorize
my driver's license number. I plan on doing the same with birthdays
and quotable quotes."

Different study lists for
different users
In order to preserve the benefits of study item weighting for
each user (if you don't know what weighting is, check out the
help topic "Weighting of study list items" in the Scriptorian
help file), separate study lists should be created. Scriptorian
stores weighting information in the study list and does not differentiate
between users. So if more than one person uses the same study
list, the weighting will be a combination of the abilities and
usage frequency of everyone combined.
You can create new study lists from the Study List Select
dialog, and easily copy the contents from one study list to another
using the Copy Between Study Lists feature.
Separate Chase from Quote
It
For some scriptures you might want to remember the location (reference)
but don't want to memorize them. Suppose, for example, you may
want to remember where the parable of the prodigal son is found,
without memorizing the content, but you also have some scriptures
you want to memorize. In that case, you would find it helpful
to create a Quote It study list that contains the verses
you want to memorize, and a Chase study list that contains
the verses you want to remember without memorizing. Actually,
it's a good idea to put everything from the Quote It study
list in the Chase list as well -- after all, if you spent
all that time memorizing it, you might also want to be sure you
can remember where it's found!
How do you like your Pop Up?
When Scriptorian was installed it was set to run in Pop Up
mode when your computer starts up. As with other Scriptorian
features, you have any control over the way Pop Up mode
works. You can choose among several different Pop Up mode
settings in the Pop Up tab of the Options dialog. You
can choose which study list(s) to use, even specifying a different
one for Quote It than for Chase. You can set whether
Pop Up will use Quote It or Chase or both.
You can set the time between Pop Up sessions, or even
turn it off altogether. So go ahead - set it up the way you like
best.
