Windows doesn't know how to open the file:
If you click on the downloaded file and a "Open With" dialog appears asking you to select
a program to open the file with, then you will need to rename the file that was downloaded.
This problem occurs because some browsers remove the ".exe" extension from the file name before
downloading it to your computer. If this is the case, just add the extension ".exe" to the file name
(i.e change "sc30eval" to "sc30eval.exe") and then you can click on it to start up the install.
Windows Vista, or Windows 7, and Scriptorian Help:
In order to run Scriptorian Help on Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may need to download a file that no longer
ships with these newer operating systems. Here is the link for the file and details for installing:
Download Windows Help Program for Windows Vista

File download errors:
If your initial download failed,
there may have been something wrong during the download process.
There are many factors that can contribute to a faulty download.
We have tested and verified the integrity of the download files
on our server. Unfortunately, beyond that we do not have any
control over the other steps involved in the download process.
Check the size of the file on your computer and see if it is the
same as that listed on the download page (for example, the sc30eval.exe
file is 5,834,752 bytes in size) More than
likely the file on your computer is smaller than this, indicating
that the data transfer was interrupted at some point.
If you experience problems when
downloading large files, you may want to take the following steps
to avoid possible disruptions to the data transfer:
- Avoid doing any other activities
on your computer (especially Internet access) while the file
is being downloaded.
- Disable any screen savers while
the file is being downloaded.
- Do the download at an "off-peak"
time to avoid potential problems high volume problems with your
ISP. For example, you may want to try starting the download just
before you go to bed.
If you would like to attempt
to download Scriptorian again, check the e-mail that was sent
to your address. It contains a URL to directly download the demo
programs without requiring another form to be filled out.
If you attempted to download
the larger, 30 day evaluation version,
you may also want to try downloading the smaller Articles
of Faith demo file. This demo does not include all the features
and data associated with the full 30 day evaluation file, and is therefore
significantly smaller. However, despite its limitations, you
can still get a pretty good feel of how Scriptorian works.
Finding the downloaded file:
If you had trouble finding the program after it has been downloaded, use the
following steps to find the program on your computer:
The name of the file is sc30eval.exe
(or sc30demo.exe).
To locate it automatically, do
the following:
- Click the "Start"
button on the Windows task bar (usually in the bottom left
corner).
- Choose "Find" or "Search", then
"Files or Folders..."
- You will be asked the name of
the file to find. In the text field labeled "Named:" (or "Search for
files or folders named:") type
the name of the file - sc30eval* (or sc30demo*) and
then press the button to begin the search.
That's it! After a moment, the
named file will appear in the find window. You can then double click on
the file to install the program (Note: if the file is missing the "exe"
extension as noted above, rename the file before trying to execute it)
Demo Install:
Double-click the file icon to start the install. The WinZip Self
Extractor dialog will appear. We recommend that you accept the
options shown. Proceed with the file installation by pressing
the Unzip button. The WinZip utility will extract all the demo
files to the destination directory. If you did not change this
setting, the directory that the demo software will be installed
to is "C:\sc30demo".
Bad zip file
If you get an error complaining about a "corrupted zip file"
or possibly a "truncated file" this is caused by a
faulty download. In this case, you need to download the program
again. To attempt another download without filling out another
form use one of the two URL's listed the e-mail message you received.
